Perrin Ashgrave, the Unlit Blade

Interrupting Him Is Not Free

Perrin fights in exactly three beats, every time, and he will run the whole sequence unless you make him stop. The trouble is that making him stop is how he gets better at it.

The Fight

Beat 1, if undamaged since his last action

Feint

Marks the nearest enemy and drops their AC by 4 against him for 3 rounds.

Beat 2

Riposte

A guaranteed extra strike against the marked target - no attack roll, just damage.

Beat 3

Finisher

A heavy blow against the mark, then the combo resets clean and starts again from Feint.

Any hit landed on him before the Finisher

Reprise Broken

The combo drops straight back to beat one - but the interruption is banked as a permanent Focus stack. Stopping him is real counterplay, but it is not undoing anything; it is trading his tempo for his power.

At half health, once

Mage Armor

His epic spell answers defensively - a real +6 dodge bonus to AC, a ward against however many Focus stacks the party has already forced onto him.

Why These Numbers

The Outer Tunnels' real ceiling was Fennick Sly at CR13 (round 1); Perrin is pitched one notch above at CR14, into 5 of the area's free Sparky slots - more headroom than any other target this round.

He is the bestiary's first Spell Sword - an Intelligence-based gish with no dedicated column, drawn from Wiz_Sorc filtered to blade-support utility (True Strike, Stoneskin, Displacement) rather than direct damage. Fennick Sly, the area's existing boss, is a Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster skirmisher with no melee feat chain at all; Perrin is built the opposite way, a real longsword specialist who happens to also cast.

Real Epic Spell: Mage Armor (id 639/877) - the one epic spell in this hak that reads as defensive rather than offensive, which is why it went to the boss whose whole kit is about surviving interruption rather than punishing it.
