The Kill

“Let's have you meet the other me.”

The tower has carried his name for longer than anyone climbing it now has been alive - which was already a strange thing to notice, until you meet the wizard still living at the top of it. Malkar Voss stopped aging the ordinary way some time ago and started refracting the way glass does instead.

He's the only real arcane spellcaster in this batch - a proper Wizard 7 with a memorized spell list running cantrips through 4th level, not a domain-cleric hybrid or a monster with a spell-like trick bolted on. His threat is entirely in the rotation: a bolt that keeps changing type, a second version of himself, and one very expensive last resort.

The Fight

Prismatic Barrage100% – 66% HP

Every 2nd round he puts a bolt into whoever's nearest, cycling through acid, lightning, and force so nobody's resistances make him predictable to fight.

Acid: 4d6 (Reflex half). Lightning: a real lightning bolt via EffectBeam, 4d6 (Reflex half). Force: 6d6 plus a brief slow, no save. Three genuinely different damage types on a rotation, not one type repeated.

This is flavor as much as mechanics - "Glass Magister" earns its name by refracting his own attacks into something different each time.

Glass Duplicate66% – 33% HP, once

A single illusory copy of himself - not a brood, not a squad, one decoy that fights alongside him and pulls attention his real body would rather keep.

The duplicate (mt_mv_glass) is a real creature with 20 HP, CR 3, that fights on its own AI - it's genuinely worth killing, but it isn't him, and killing it doesn't end the fight.

Deliberately restrained next to Maggris's repeating Brood Call from an earlier boss build - one decoy, once, rather than an escalating summon loop.

Shatterglassbelow 33% HP, once

The last thing he does with any caution: hardens and hastes himself, then spends everything he has left on one real Fireball at whoever's standing closest together.

Permanent Haste and DR 5 on himself, then a genuine Fireball centered on the nearest enemy - 5d6 fire to anyone within 6m who fails a Reflex save, half on a success.

The only AOE nova in this entire batch of five, used exactly once and deliberately - every other boss here works through single-target or zone mechanics instead.

Why These Numbers

Malkar's HP (44) sits deliberately low next to the martial bosses in this batch - a real Wizard 7 with d4 Hit Dice and Con 14 audits to an expected ≈35, and casters in this module have consistently run in the low-40s to high-50s range (Ysolde 42, Cairnbell 41, Hollowthroat 56) because their threat lives in the spell list, not the health bar.

Building him as a real prepared caster rather than another domain-cleric or spell-like-ability monster was the point - this module's bosses so far have all leaned on Cleric domains or natural abilities for their casting flavor. Malkar is the first pure arcanist, and the memorized list is built to real 3.5 spell levels (Magic Missile 1st, Melf's Acid Arrow/Mirror Image 2nd, Lightning Bolt/Fireball 3rd, Wall of Fire/Stoneskin/Confusion 4th) rather than approximate flavor picks.
