Ysolde Karrion

the Last Rite

Long after her own name was struck from the temple's rolls, she kept saying the service over congregants who had nowhere left to go. She has been reading the same rite, over the same dead, every night since — and anyone who interrupts it gets folded into the congregation.

Field notes

What the temple's other dead remember of her, filtered through whoever survived asking.

Karrion Temple has never stopped producing corpses — the raised congregants shuffling its nave, the spectres and wraiths that pick off anyone who lingers, the cursed swordsmen still standing their old post. None of it happens by accident. Something down in the crypt levels has been keeping the dead moving for longer than anyone has kept records, and everything else in the temple defers to it without needing to be told why.

She does not chase. She waits at whatever grave she is tending and finishes the verse she is on before she so much as turns around — by which point the bell she keeps time with has already tolled once for whoever disturbed her. It is, unfailingly, the last thing they hear clearly before the rest of the service catches up with them.

Stat block

Revised: CR 7 → CR 13. An audit of Karrion Temple's real ambient table (checking each creature's actual class levels and ability scores, not just its labeled CR — the cursed swordsman's headline CR 16 turned out to be the same maxed-stat-block pattern inflating several other zones, so it was excluded) found a genuine ceiling of CR 11 (a famine spirit). CR 7 sat below it. Bumped to Undead 4 / Cleric 9 (from 2/5) to clear it, keeping the same ratio between her two classes.

Built to a real Undead/Cleric chassis, not a reskinned stock skeleton — audited clean against the module's own D&D conventions (average hit dice, skill-rank cap, resref length).

The unbroken vigil

Its combat script chains onto the module's own leader AI rather than replacing it — ordinary targeting and melee stay exactly as designed. Three phases, gated on her own hit points.

Above 66% hp · every 3rd round

Death Toll

A private funeral bell rung over whoever is closest: a bolt of stolen life that hurts on its own, and on a failed save leaves a lingering negative level — the mark of someone she has, in her mind, already started burying.

FortitudeSave(NEGATIVE) · dmg + Negative Level 3 rnd
66%–33% hp · every 4th round

Last Rite

Hurt enough to stop tending one grave, she starts reading the service over the whole room instead. Everyone hostile close enough takes negative energy in the same breath she uses to speak it, and she is healed for exactly what it costs them.

WillSave(NEGATIVE) · AoE drain, heals self for damage dealt
Below 33% hp · once, then Death Toll resumes at full strength

The Final Muster

Badly hurt, she finally calls on the temple itself: whichever of its restless dead are still within earshot rise to stand with her one more time, and the room goes cold with a fear no one in it can place the source of.

Why these numbers

CR 13, revised from the original CR 7 after checking Karrion Temple's real ambient ceiling — a famine spirit at CR 11, once the cursed swordsman's inflated CR 16 was confirmed as the same maxed-out-stats bug found padding several other zones and excluded. The vigil's three phases and their DCs are unchanged — they already compute from her live Wisdom and Hit Dice at runtime, so the revision only touches the sheet underneath them.

Undead 4 / Cleric 9 keeps the same "monster chassis plus a handful of caster levels" shape as Cairnbell, scaled up proportionally from 2/5 — the racial levels give her the frame and immunities an undead is expected to have, the cleric levels buy the domain powers and prepared spells her script leans on for save DCs.

Death + Undeath, not Cairnbell's Death/Evil or the Hollowthroat's Water/Trickery — Death for the funeral rite she never stopped performing, Undeath for what tending a crypt full of the reanimated for a century actually teaches a priestess. Spell Focus: Necromancy backs the same read: every one of her scripted effects deals negative energy.

93 HP / natural AC 6 sits close to the average-hit-dice expectation for the new level spread (verified with the module's own audit tool, not eyeballed), nudged up by Toughness — enough to actually reach the Final Muster before going down, since that phase is the point of fighting her at all.

How she's wired

Scripts chain onto the standard module AI rather than replacing it, the same convention every boss here follows:

ScriptSpawn kt_ys_spawn → ExecuteScript("j_ai_onsp_leader", OBJECT_SELF), +15% scale, permanent grave-hush aura ScriptEndRound kt_ys_round → ExecuteScript("j_ai_oncombatrou", OBJECT_SELF), then the 3-phase vigil ScriptDeath kt_ys_death → send-off VFX, then ExecuteScript("bele_ondeath", OBJECT_SELF)
