Beleghost Bestiary — Boss Dossier XIV
A fire elemental fused to whatever burned last in the Dragon Fields — and the only boss in the compendium that isn't on a clock. It goes off when it's been hurt enough, not when a round says so.
Every prior boss in the compendium keys its phases to a round count or a one-time HP threshold. The Cinderwrought's opening phase runs on neither — it banks fuel from every hit it takes, and detonates the instant that fuel maxes out, whenever that happens to land in the fight.
Every hit that lands on it banks one point of fuel. At 3 fuel it detonates immediately — 3d6 fire to everything within 6 meters — and resets to zero. A party that alpha-strikes it early triggers this faster; a party that trickles damage in delays it. Either way, it's not on the same clock as anything else in this book.
A ranged whip of fire (3d6) with a Reflex save — fail it and the target gets shoved back several meters, the same knockback technique the compendium's other physical bosses use, just delivered at range instead of in melee.
It locks in place, visibly building toward detonation — a 2.5-second telegraph, same as the module's other planted-hazard boss, just self-inflicted here instead of planted in the ground. When it goes off (5d6 fire, 8-meter radius) it doesn't die from the blast — it comes out the other side permanently enraged, hitting harder and more often for the rest of the fight.
A pure Elemental 7 mirrors the module's existing precedent for a "real creature, no class fiction" CR7 build. HP (72) sits about 15% over the average-hit-die line — enough to survive triggering Ember Feed early without the fight ending before Cinder Lash or Critical Mass ever come up, but not so much padding that a party correctly pacing their damage avoids the early detonation altogether.
Built from scratch, cloned from the module's large fire elemental base for the model and racial entry, then rebuilt entirely — abilities, feats, scripts, all of it. The Dragon Fields had general spawn groups (a mixed adventurer-camp encounter, resource nodes, chest tables) but no named boss of its own before this.
