Beleghost Bestiary — Boss Dossier XIII

The Tallow King

Ruler of the Aventhine drain-grates by way of everything the raised dead down there don't need anymore — and gone the instant the fight stops going his way.

A fight that runs from him

Every phase of the Tallow King is built to avoid a straight fight rather than win one outright — he fouls the room first, splits the party's attention second, and only commits to a kill once he's already gone somewhere the party can't easily follow.

100% – 66% HP · runs every round

Filth Cloud

A standing haze rather than a targeted attack — anyone lingering within 5 meters takes a DC 15 Fortitude save each round or loses a point of Constitution to disease for a few seconds. It costs him nothing and never misses just because a target sidesteps.

66% – 33% HP · every 4 rounds, up to 3 calls

Swarm the Drain

A shrill whistle, and two sewer rats climb out of the nearest grate. They're not meant to matter individually — they're meant to buy him room to reposition while someone deals with them.

below 33% HP · once

Undertow Surge

He drops from sight entirely (Improved Invisibility, permanent from here on), reappears beside whoever in the fight has the least health left, and puts everything he has into one bite — 3d8+6 piercing, plus a Strength-draining Fortitude check. He comes out of it permanently faster and never fully seen again for the rest of the fight.

Why these numbers

A pure Rogue 7 with no sneak-attack gimmick spelled out in the mechanic — the "ambush" is scripted directly into Undertow Surge instead, so it always lands regardless of positioning or flanking. HP (55) runs about 30% over the raw average-hit-die expectation to compensate for a build that otherwise has no armor and a below-average natural AC for CR7; without the padding he'd fold to any single unlucky crit before Undertow Surge ever fires.

How it's wired

Built from scratch, cloned from the module's wererat-lord base for the right silhouette and lycanthrope race entry, then rebuilt from the ground up — every ability score, feat, skill rank, and script hook. He's a brand-new spawn-table case in an area that already ran zombies, a beastman, and drain rats without a named boss of its own.
